Introduction
In my last post "draw a tin can" I affirmed that it was easy to draw some objects with Adobe Illustrator and more precisely 3D objects with the "Effect-3D-Revolve" tool, but it is not always the case. The following example could not be done with the 3D tools in Illustrator...
The bottle
Here is the original image (I have hidden the label – see green arrow):
I start by drawing the outline of the object as above (path that is saved for later use), then I create 2 distinct gradient meshes in order to prevent having an alone too complex net. The first gradient mesh, a simplified form, is color RGB = 89, 56, 19 as shown below:
The gradient mesh is made
simply as
below:
Then I apply a clipping
mask with the first contour that I kept for this purpose:
The second part, the shape of
the neck, is also RGB color = 89, 56, 19,
then I complete a gradient
mesh, as shown below:
The light
reflections on the neck of the bottle are made with 2 paths RGB color = 215, 204, 204 and 12 pixels Gaussian
Blur as below:
The dark spot is
performed with a path color RGB = 27, 40, 38 and 7
pixels Gaussian Blur as below:
The bright bands on
the top of the bottle are made
with 2 paths color RGB = 215, 204, 204
and Gaussian Blur 5 pixels as below:
The top of the neck (and the bottom of
the cork) is a path of color RGB = 27, 40, 38 and Gaussian
Blur 1.5 pixels as below:
The contours of the bottle are clearer than the body. This is achieved with 2 tracks (obtained from the initial path split into 2 parts) color RGB = 215, 204, 204 and Gaussian Blur 3.6 pixels as below:
The light
reflections on the bottle are made
with different paths (2 examples
are given below). The first is a path
of color RGB = 209, 216, 228
and Gaussian blur 5 pixels as below:
The second is a gradient of 2 colors (-90 ° angle) and Gaussian
blur 5 pixels, like this:
·
Location 0%, RGB = 229, 224, 218· Location 91%, RGB = 157, 151, 151 (Distribution: 69.5-30.5%)
For more information see the post “notation for gradients of colors”.
Green arrows below show other light reflections on the bottle:
The bottle cork
The design of the
stopper starts with the highest part with a 2 color gradient (angle 0 °):· Location 0%, RGB = 196, 154, 108
· Location 62%, RGB = 131, 92, 36 (Distribution: 69.5-30.5%)00
A second path has a clearer gradient 2 colors
(angle 0 ° and feather 2 pixels):
·
Location 38%, RGB = 245, 223, 173· Location 100%, RGB = 248, 249, 239 (Distribution: 30-70%)
Then the object is expanded
(Object-Expand…) into 10 paths in order to modify their colors which will gradually become clearer from the left to the right. The light reflection is made with a path color RGB = 248, 249, 239 and Gaussian Blur 7.2 pixels as below:
Then, the right
side of the top of the stopper is made
with the same technique as that of the left
side. The part immediately
below is also made with the same technique and the
junction between the 2 is overlain
with a path of color RGB = 248, 249, 239
and Gaussian Blur 3.3 pixels as below:
The third part is
made with the same elements as those
described above, and light reflections are paths of color RGB = 248, 249, 239
and Gaussian Blur 4.5 pixels as below:
This part is then
covered with a path of color RGB = 139, 94, 60, brush " Pencil - Thin" (size 1 pt., 0.9 pixel Gaussian
Blur and Opacity 60%) which is
divided into 3 parts with the "Eraser"
tool (diameter 3 pts.):
The last part (lowest) begins with a 2 color gradient (angle 0 °and feather of 1 pixel):
·
Location 0%, RGB = 196, 154, 108· Location 62%, RGB = 131, 92, 36 (Distribution: 70-30%)
A second path covers
the first and is filled with a gradient of 3 colors
(angle 90 ° and feather 3 pixels):
·
Location 7%, RGB = 139, 94, 60· Location 38%, RGB = 245, 223, 173 (Distribution: 13-87%)
· Location 100%, RGB = 248, 249, 239 (Distribution: 30-70%)
Then 3 paths cover this part (paths made as seen above) and light reflections are made as seen previously (color RGB = 248, 249, 239, 7.2 pixels Gaussian Blur and Opacity 68%):
The label
The drawing
of the label starts with a path
(outline 8 pts.) RGB color = 234, 208, 47
and the bottom is color RGB = 255, 237, 198:
The text "ESPAGNE
(SPAIN)" (Police: Georgia, Bold, 32 pts.) is white color on
green background (RGB = 17, 87, 48) with an
outline of 7 pts., same
color as the previous:
The pattern corresponding
to the olive branch (green arrow) is a
drawing that I had made from an image
found on the internet.
The following
texts are added:
·
"Net 750 ml" and "25.5 oz." (Font: Adobe Garamond, Regular, 20 pts. and RGB = 157, 151, 151)· "Extra Virgin Olive Oil" (Font: Rockwell, Regular, 48 pts. and RGB = 30, 44, 23)
· "Cold extraction" (Font: Rockwell, Regular, 26 pts. and RGB = 35, 31, 32)
· "ORGANIC AGRICULTURE" (Font: Rockwell, Regular, 14 pts. and RGB = 35, 31, 32)
Then the label is scaled and "pasted" on the bottle:
The overview of the
results is
given below:
We finish with the drawing of a shadow made with a blend (option: 50 steps) with the following 2 paths:
The first is color RGB = 92, 74, 74 and feather 8 pts.:
The second is filled with white color and feather 8 pts.:
The final result is shown below:
